"So You Think You've Got It Bad"

I've been training Diana Towne for almost 3 years. As most of you may know by now, she is as talented an athlete as you'll ever find. Here is a short list of her recent accomplishments: 10th Place at the 2009 Southern California CrossFit Games Qualifiers, 1st place in her first off-road triathlon, top 10 finisher in 3 Day adventure race. These are only the things I know she's done since she became a client of mine.

Ever since she walked into, then La Mesa Workout, to start her fitness program, she has had orthopedic issues with her right shoulder. She has always displayed the grit of a true athletic warrior by working through the discomfort to advance her level of fitness. It wasn't until this Spring that Diana decided that enough was enough. She made the very tough decision to have surgery on her shoulder to ease some of the pain she was experiencing, and be able to perform Crossfit the way she knew she was capable of.  She had the surgery performed 7 weeks ago.

Did having her arm in a sling slow her down?  No, Diana had me putting her through workouts 5 days post-op.  All of these workouts were done with only one arm and no running, no jumping, no sit-ups, and no real stress to her right side what so ever. Challenge accepted, challenge carried out. Last week she had her sling removed and was given clearance to start exercising without weightlifting. Today, Diane did the WOD "Grace" with one arm and with a barbell at 53#!  She did it in 3:50, Amazing! So, when you start thinking you've got it bad…
