I haven’t written anything of length and of substance on our web site in a very long time.  I always want the workout to be the main focus of our blog.  That’s what we’re about.  My opinions, views, rants, etc. are best served when talking to people face to face.  You all know I have very few of those.  Anyway, I wanted to touch on something that falls on the side of incredible, yet, not really.  I have owned CFEC for going on 5 years now.  I have seen the tremendous growth of CrossFit, the business, and CrossFit, the sport.  I have heard all the descriptions of what CrossFit means to people as a workout and as a way of life.  Trust me, I love CrossFit.  In all the ways it has touched you all, it has done  the same for me.  I love it.  There has been such a growth in CrossFit, in both the culture and the gym business, that some of the verbiage used in CrossFit has been so overused it has almost become cliche.  I don’t put the word “community” on our web site.  I don’t call our gym a “box.” I don’t say “WOD.” That doesn’t mean anything negative to those who use those words, I just don’t.  That doesn’t mean I don’t think we have a community within our gym, I just don’t try and advertise it.  I know we have a great group of people that have decided to make our gym a great place to workout and make friendships.  I’ve known a lot of you for 8+ years or more.  You are my friends.  But, what has happen recently with one of our members has put the word “community” squarely at the center of what our members are about.  Amy Steffek recently broke her arm.  She’s a mother of 4 small kids and works part time at a local hospital.  She’s a busy mom.  The injury has cause a major kink in the running of her household.  That’s not including the fact she’s in incredible pain.  The way that the members of CFEC have stepped up to help Phil and Amy cope with this major injury and life hurdle has left an overwhelming glow in my heart.  Not that I’m surprised everyone has stepped up to help, but how it was was done with no hesitation, no reservation and with total selflessness.  Tina and I would like to thank all of those who have donated time and money to help Phil and Amy.  They are great people and great CrossFitters.  I know that they are going to need more help in the coming weeks, (I’m putting together Amy’s modified workout program as I write this), so help however you can.  I know they are very grateful for the outreach they have received so far.  Let’s redefine the word community, CFEC style.
