A Word About Diet From Dr. Barry Sears
Paul and I were fortunate to attend a nutrition lecture given by Dr. Barry Sears, founder of the Zone Diet, this past weekend. It was here that we heard the term "Toxic Fat Syndrome."
“Toxic Fat Syndrome is caused by your diet and fighting it is a life-long struggle,” Dr. Sears said.
Dr. Sears explains that the underlying cause of chronic diseases (like
allergies, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, Lupus, etc.) comes from the
increased production of a natural fatty acid called arachidonic acid
(AA), which can be toxic at high concentrations. Oddly enough,
accumulation of excess body fat is your body’s initial attempt at
protecting you, by encapsulating or trapping the toxic fat in your fat
cells. The problem is that the toxic fat doesn’t stay trapped forever.
Once it begins to spill into the bloodstream, Dr. Sears says you now
have Toxic Fat Syndrome (TFS).
Dr. Sears believes the foods we eat should be treated like drugs (eaten
at the right time with the proper balance of protein, carbs and fat).
The epidemic of inflammation driven by increasing levels of toxic fat
in the blood is a result of the American diet over the past 20 years:
increased consumption of refined carbohydrates and vegetable oil along
with the decreased consumption of healthy Omega-3 fish oil.
I will borrow from Barry what Barry borrowed from Hippocrates: "Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food."
REVERSING TOXIC FAT SYNDROME
The good news is that toxic fat can be reversed in less than 30 days
through a combination of the anti-inflammatory Zone Diet and adequate doses of fish oil.
“Reversing TFS is easy if you are willing to make the time to do it,” Dr. Sears said.
15-second Prescription:
Consume as much ultra-refined EPA/DHA concentrate (super fish oil) as
you can. With this one simple
action, Dr. Sears says you have gone a great distance to reduce silent
inflammation by diluting out toxic fat and move you to a higher state
of wellness in 30 days.
5-minute Prescription: Use Zone Functional Foods such as bars and protein shakes as meal replacements.
30-minute Prescription: Prepare Zone meals using Zone Meals in Seconds or other Zone Diet recipe books.
3-hour Prescription:
Take adequate levels of super fish oil, eat 4-5 Zone meals daily, add 30 to 60
minutes of vigorous exercise 5-6 days each week, and 20 minutes of stress relief each day.
Looking at the above, we can all see that the 3-hour prescription is the one that will give us the improved health, performance, and lifestyle that we each work so hard to achieve. What we do in the gym is only a piece of the health and wellness puzzle. Your nutrition is the other, larger and even more crucial part of your health equation and should be treated as such. I know you all work hard in the gym, I see it every day. How many of you are giving your diet the same amount of effort and consideration?
CFEC will be scheduling a nutrition seminar in the near future, look for details soon.

Double Unders
Sit-Ups
1 Mile Run
Coaching Tips: If you cannot perform double unders, substitute with tuck jumps. This will be a good workout to learn and practice those double unders. For the sit-ups, your shoulders must touch the mat at the bottom and your hands must reach past your toes, with your shoulders over your hips, at the top. Do not throw your arms over your head during the down phase of the sit-up.
Ouch! This one looks pretty terrible.
Don-No cherry picking. We’ll see you in the morning,Right?
Thank you for this insight on nutrition and staying healthy.

One must pick his battles wisely.

Thank you Sage for your coaching and passion for these lifts. We all appreciate your help in making our trainers and members better at all the lifts. We will continue to take all that you taught Lisa amd I to anyone and everyone who wants to get better at the Olympic lifts.
Don, you have no problems picking your wedgies. We have it on film.
Tony, didn’t Margaret Thatcher also say “Pardon me but is that Gray Pupon?”
I don’t know what a “Gray Pupon” is, but it sounds like a pediatric intestinal ailment. Perhaps you meant “Grey Poupon” the mustard, but I don’t know for sure (are you sure you’re of Asian descent?).
Anyway, perhaps you will appreciate a quote from Attila the Hun better than one from Maggie:
“If an incompetent chieftain is removed, seldom do we appoint the highest-ranking subordinate to his place.”
My time is coming! 🙂
