I haven’t written anything of length and of substance on our web site in a very long time. I always want the workout to be the main focus of our blog. That’s what we’re about. My opinions, views, rants, etc. are best served when talking to people face to face. You all know I have very few of those. Anyway, I wanted to touch on something that falls on the side of incredible, yet, not really. I have owned CFEC for going on 5 years now. I have seen the tremendous growth of CrossFit, the business, and CrossFit, the sport. I have heard all the descriptions of what CrossFit means to people as a workout and as a way of life. Trust me, I love CrossFit. In all the ways it has touched you all, it has done the same for me. I love it. There has been such a growth in CrossFit, in both the culture and the gym business, that some of the verbiage used in CrossFit has been so overused it has almost become cliche. I don’t put the word “community” on our web site. I don’t call our gym a “box.” I don’t say “WOD.” That doesn’t mean anything negative to those who use those words, I just don’t. That doesn’t mean I don’t think we have a community within our gym, I just don’t try and advertise it. I know we have a great group of people that have decided to make our gym a great place to workout and make friendships. I’ve known a lot of you for 8+ years or more. You are my friends. But, what has happen recently with one of our members has put the word “community” squarely at the center of what our members are about. Amy Steffek recently broke her arm. She’s a mother of 4 small kids and works part time at a local hospital. She’s a busy mom. The injury has cause a major kink in the running of her household. That’s not including the fact she’s in incredible pain. The way that the members of CFEC have stepped up to help Phil and Amy cope with this major injury and life hurdle has left an overwhelming glow in my heart. Not that I’m surprised everyone has stepped up to help, but how it was was done with no hesitation, no reservation and with total selflessness. Tina and I would like to thank all of those who have donated time and money to help Phil and Amy. They are great people and great CrossFitters. I know that they are going to need more help in the coming weeks, (I’m putting together Amy’s modified workout program as I write this), so help however you can. I know they are very grateful for the outreach they have received so far. Let’s redefine the word community, CFEC style.

In the last week and a half the community at CrossFit East County has redefined what friendship means.
If you had asked me a month ago what kind of impact Amy breaking her arm would have on our family I could have never have guessed the chaos it would cause. Routine tasks have become impossible: picking kids up from school, folding laundry, washing dishes. With no family in the area to help out I honestly don’t know how we would have made it through the last week and a half without the CFEC community.
From the beginning our CFEC family has taken charge: driving our kids from the gym back to the house while Amy and I headed to the hospital, providing childcare, purchasing groceries, picking up kids from school, cooking and delivering meals, and doing random chores around the house (apologies again for the fact a few of you have had to fold my underwear…)
Although, Amy breaking her arm has been a rough experience the friendship and compassion shown by the CrossFit East County community can be described as nothing less than amazing. Absolutely, amazing.
Thank you to all of you,
Phil, Amy, Peyton, Brian, Jonah, and Shiloh

To Paul & Our entire CFEC Family,
I don’t really know what to say besides “thank you!” Your outpouring of love & support has seen us through these last 2 weeks. This week alone, we have had 3 meals delivered, groceries delivered, moral support, child care offered, & cash donations given to help with some of our expenses. If it weren’t for all of you, we would have been completely overwhelmed by this situation. Instead, we have been overwhelmed by a community of people that obviously takes care of each other. We have been a part of other so-called “communities” in the past whether through work, school, & church but never have we felt remotely as encouraged, loved, or supported as we have through the CFEC family. Your response has been nothing short of amazing. So again, we say “thank you”.
And Paul, I’m glad to hear you are working on my modified workout plan. My pain is getting a little easier to manage each day & I am very anxious to get back in the gym. Coming from the person who said she would never do crossfit, it’s pretty ironic (& fitting) that instead I found the gym I couldn’t live without.
Love you guys!!
Amy & the rest of the Steffek clan 🙂
I enjoy your writing style genuinely enjoying this web site.
Thank you so much for providing individuals with a very splendid chance to read from this website. It is often so superb and as well , full of amusement for me personally and my office co-workers to visit your website a minimum of 3 times in 7 days to see the new stuff you have got. And definitely, I’m just usually motivated with your outstanding solutions served by you. Certain 2 points in this post are in fact the most efficient we have ever had.
I am not real good with English but I line up this real leisurely to read.
